4 Simple Practices for Yoga Off Your Mat

March 10, 2015

This year’s Mexico yoga retreat week has wrapped up and I am left as always with a full heart, clear eyes and a deep sense of contentment. There is something so special about living, eating and practicing yoga together; it truly feeds the soul.

This year we spent the week exploring the stories of Ram, Sita and Hanuman’s adventures as told in The Ramayana. Our yoga practices were woven together by these stories and the main threads of devotion, love and truth. Over one of our last breakfasts, one participant asked how we carry these themes into daily life, especially in the context of business where there is a drive to get ahead. The ensuing conversation brought forth these suggestions: be kind and compassionate in all interactions, pause and breathe before acting, operate from a place of abundance and know that if one option does not work out there will be others that will, and ask what is True or Real in this moment or situation and let that initiate any action.

May these simple and profound practices inspire your yoga off the mat (and remember, I said simple, not easy!).
