Mona began her yoga journey accidentally in 1996 when she was living in a small town in northern British Columbia. One day she noticed a poster on the door of the local Y announcing a new yoga class. Not really knowing what yoga was, Mona signed up for the course. In the first class, something clicked and she knew that this is what she “should be doing.” She has been doing it ever since.

Although not naturally flexible, Mona immersed herself in the study of yoga – both the physical asana and the philosophy. She eventually started teaching which brings her love of yoga alive and into the world.

Mona’s first teacher training was with Erich Schiffmann. She then continued in the Krishnamcharya lineage studying Iyengar, Ashtanga and Viniyoga. Eventually she concentrated in the Iyengar yoga tradition and in 2001, she successfully sat the Introductory Level I and II assessment and is now officially certified as an Iyengar yoga teacher.

Mona also works as a psychotherapist with specializations in creative arts therapies and in couple and family therapy. Her background in psychology and her interest in the dynamics of relationships influence her yoga teaching. She links how the exploration of the relationship with the self in yoga impacts the relationships of the practitioner in the world.
